Apple iOS 7

Tuesday, June 11, 2013 - 0 Comments

The official promo WWDC 2013 AD of iOS7 :

iOS 7, the latest version of Apple’s flagship mobile operating system, is here, and it’s almost entirely different from the versions that came before. Gone are the skeuomorphic designs and 3D effects, replaced by Sir Jony Ive’s “flat design.” Rumors had been flying for weeks about the new OS and now it’s here and it is, at least at this early reckoning, a massive change for the six year old operating system.

NEW LOOK:

  • iOS 7 has a new font leading the way, which seems to be a sort of Helvetica Neue Ultra. It’s very skinny, clean, and it was hinted at in the iOS 7 banners that went up for WWDC yesterday.
  • Instead of white bars on a black background, Apple will now tell you what kind of service coverage you have with five little dots, which are white and grey depending on how strong the signal is across a translucent background.
  • The lock screen is changed for the first time in iOS’s history, with no more shine top or bottom bars for slide to unlock or the clock. Instead, Slide to unlock is translucent above the background image.
  • Default app icons are now flatter, but not quite flat, just as predicted.
  • Jony Ive’s hand has had its way with iOS notifications. The notifications panel isn’t laced with dark grey linen anymore, but actually has a very flat look to it. There is a today view, that lets you see friends birthdays, upcoming invitations, calendar, stocks, and a quick look at tomorrow.
  • The apps all seem to have a white base, except for the stocks app which has a black background and the weather app, which shows motion in the background to convey the current weather.
  • The keyboard is more white, than grey, with a translucency that lets you see what’s underneath the keyboard.

CONTROL CENTER

  • Control Center is a pull-up tray that is available in your lock screen.
  • You can adjust brightness, volume, and other settings including Wifi, Airplane mode, rotation lock, or Bluetooth.
  • The Control Center even offers a flashlight, along with tabs for music, camera, and other quick-access apps.
  • The Control Center takes on the environment it’s in, so if you swipe up while you’re in mail, it will have the same blue and white coloring under that translucent panel.

MULTITASKING

  • iOS 7 lets you multitask between all third-party apps with much better battery consumption.
  • You can double-tap the home button to enter into multi-tasking mode, just like always, but the interface for multitasking has been revamped. It appears to offer live previews, but Apple wasn’t clear about that.

SAFARI

  • Safari opens straight into full screen mode now, with the option to pull down to bring up the search bar at the top.
  • The search field has been improved to be a unified smart search field, which lets you have access to all your favorite websites with a single tap.
  • Tabs come with a totally new interface, scrolling in a vertical carousel, and there are no longer any limits. In other words, you can have as many tabs as you want, as opposed to just 8 like before. Swipe a tab off to the side to throw it away.
  • The new Safari is integrated with iCloud keychain from OS X Mavericks, and also comes with parental controls.

AIRDROP

  • You can share sharesheets with other people by simply tapping their name. No NFC required.
  • Airdrop supports iPhone 5, iPad 4th gen, iPad Mini.

CAMERA AND PHOTOS

  • The Camera app lets you swipe between your various camera types, such as panorama or HDR so you can quickly take a pic instead of fumbling around with settings.
  • Photos marks the first update to the photo gallery on iOS since it was introduced.
  • You can search based on date, and location, within the photos app.
  • Instagram must be flattered — Apple has introduced photo filters so you can add a little professionalism to the picture.
  • Users can share via AirDrop, iCloud photo-sharing, as well as shared Photo Streams.
  • You can even share video with iCloud photo-sharing.

SIRI:

  • Siri has a new voice! It sounds similar, but also weird. You can choose a male or female voice, if you like. Voices include languages like French, German, and other languages “over time.”
  • The visual UI has also been upgraded, with a sound wave going along the bottom.
  • Siri has also been integrated with settings, letting you tell her to turn on bluetooth, or lower the screen brightness.
  • The company has also added support for Twitter, Wikipedia, and shows web search results direct from Bing.

IOS IN THE CAR

  • iOS in the Car depends a lot on Siri.
  • It puts the iOS homescreen on the screen of your car, and lets you search for directions, listen to music, etc.

APP STORE

  • You can now search for apps based on location. In other words, search for apps by the Louvre and see a lot of French museum apps.
  • The App Store also automatically updates apps for you in the background now. Hallelujah again!

ITUNES RADIO:

  • Apple has finally introduced the much-anticipated iTunes Radio, which gives a Genius-like experience to the entire 26-million title iTunes catalog.
  • You can see the full list of songs on each station by clicking history, with purchase and preview buttons built right in to send you to the iTunes store.
  • iTunes Radio also lets you customize each station by clicking a star to show that you want more of this type of music.
  • iTunes Match users will get an ad-free experience, but others will be able to use the app for free with a few audio and text ads.

ACTIVATION LOCK:

  • This is for those of us who have had an iPhone stolen.
  • If a thief steals your phone and tries to turn off Find My iPhone, they can no longer turn the device back on without your iCloud password.
  • Users can also block messages and calls from other users.

How to get windows 8's metro style Start screen on older versions of windows

Tuesday, May 14, 2013 - 0 Comments

DOWNLOAD: IObit's new WinMetro application, you can now bring the Metro UI to older versions of Windows such as Windows 7, Vista and XP. The app offers the popular Metro tiles such as weather, calendar, news, stocks, and frequently used programs. The Charms bar is also available by moving the mouse to the right side of the screen, which will appear automatically.

The search button allows users to navigate the entire computer.

WinMetro also gives users the option to boot to the Metro Start Screen directly.

With that being said, the application does not provide the full functionality of the Metro UI, but it's still a fun way to look cool and not have to pay for a Windows 8 upgrade.

How to use your android phone to control computer remotely

Sunday, May 5, 2013 - 0 Comments

Are you tired of providing on-site tech support for your friends and family? Providing support remotely is an easy way to help them while maintaining your sanity. If you don't have a computer nearby, but have your Android phone you can still help. Here's how:

Computer setup

Step 1:
On the computer you want to remote control, download "TeamViewer QuickSupport" from TeamViewer. The downloaded file is named TeamViewerQS_en.exe. The program is self-contained so it does not need to be installed.

Step 2:
Double-click on the TeamViewerQS_en.exe file to launch TeamViewer on the computer you want to control.

Step 3:
At the main screen, the numeric ID of that system is listed and a numeric password for that session. Make a note of the ID and password as you'll need that information later.

Step 4:
If you're setting this up on someone else's computer, you may want to create a shortcut for them or place the file on their desktop so they can find it more easily when they need your help. Once you've connected to the computer, a small window with a session list will pop up in the lower right-hand corner.
TeamViewer session list.

Android setup

Step 1:
On your Android phone, install TeamViewer from the Android Market and launch it. In the first box, enter the ID of the "partner" computer. In the second box, enter the password and tap the "Connected to partner" button.

 Step 2:
Once connected, you'll see gesture control instructions.

 Step 3:
Close the instruction screen to see the desktop of the remote computer.
TeamViewer connected
.

You've got control! Now you can help your in-law's figure out how to use Netflix streaming or add an RSS feed to Google Reader. You can help someone with just about anything he or she might need help with, without having to physically be there. You can use the mouse, type, print, and even reboot the remote computer.

The Android version of TeamViewer does have a few limitations, compared with the computer version. The Android version does not support local audio, text chat ,video chat, or file transfers.

Get all the passwords on LAN

Here is a great tutorial of how to know the passwords on LAN ..... This trick is very efficient . You can know all the passwords on the lan using this . The software CAIN AND ABEL is necessary for that.

Download from this link : download CAIN AND ABEL

-=Step One=-

You want to activate "Sniffer" by activating the button next to the "Open" icon. You will also want to turn on APR which stands for APR Poison Routing. (Don't take POISON literally, It will not actually harm the computer you are piggybacking on)

-=Step Two=-

Switch your active/current tab to "Sniffer," after doing so right click in the middle of the blank fields and click on "Scan MAC Addresses" and make sure "All hosts in my subnet" is clicked with a dot in the circle. You should see several hosts pop up, if they did then you are doing everything correctly so far.

-=Step Three=-

At the bottom of Cain and Abel, you will see a tab called "APR," make that your active/current tab you are viewing under the "Sniffer" tab. Now click on the top white blank box in the "APR" subtab, and go up top and click on the "Add" button. Click on what ever you Routers IP is. Then click the IP of the target computer or whatever you want to piggyback on. Then press OK.

-=Step Four=-

After pressing OK you should see a line in the top box and it will either say IDLE or POISONING. If it says IDLE just give it a couple of seconds for it to start the poisoning. If it is POISONING go down to the bottom again and find "Passwords," make that your current/active subtab. Now passwords and usernames should be popping up under any of the select categories, mine are usually HTTP passwords but, yours might be different.

How to detect and block an ARP spoofing

attack on a LAN

ARP poisoning attacks are the most dangerous MITM attacks when working on a LAN. The most hazardous thing about this attack is that they go unnoticed for a very long time or in some cases they would never be detected if not checked for. No naive internet user is gonna check if he is being poisoned. This would go undetected in a trusted environment like an office or at college. Well then it is the responsibility of the admins to protect their clients from attack.
Detecting an ARP Spoofing attack
Well detecting an ARP attack is fairly easy assuming that the malware responds to standard ARP requests. Here's how you go about detecting a possible attack.

1. Start a network capture using a tool such as tcpdump or Wireshark.
2. Generate some traffic on your machine and then stop the capture.
3. Now analyze the traffic. You don't have to be an expert to do this. Check if you are getting ARP requests or responses from multiple addresses.

If you are getting ARP traffic from sources other than your default gateway there is possibly an eavesdropper. This eavesdropper could also modify what you recieve. A very good application of MITM is 'login credentials stealing', especially from SSL secured websites. Tools such as Ettercap and Cain & Abel can make this possible even for a script kiddie.

This was about detecting an MITM, but there is no manual way to block an MITM, other than bashing up the intruder sitting at the poisoning host machine.

Blocking an ARP Spoofing Attack:

ArpON (Arp handler inspectiON) is a portable handler daemon that make Arp secure in order to avoid Arp Spoofing/Poisoning & co.

This is possible using two kinds of anti Arp Poisoning techniques, the first is based on SARPI or "Static Arp Inspection", the second on DARPI or "Dynamic Arp Inspection" approach.

Keep in mind other common tools fighting ARP poisoning usually limit their activity only to point out the problem instead of blocking it, ArpON does it using SARPI and DARPI policies. Finally you can use ArpON to pentest some switched/hubbed LAN with/without DHCP protocol, in fact you can disable the daemon in order to use the tools to poison the ARP Cache.

Compress 1GB file into 10MB!!!

You might be shocked by reading this title that how can we make a 10 mb file from a large 1 gb file. But it is possible by KGB Achiever software.
When a file is compressed with KGB Archiver it saves it with own extension and at the time of decompression it automatically recognizes the file format. The only limitation of KGB archiver is, decompressed file cannot be open or extract with other compression softwares. You can also choose any compression level (high, maximum, normal, low, very weak) to compress a file but the compression time  will vary according to your selected compression level.
Due to high compression ratio of KGB archiver, you need to have a decent system hardware configuration:
1.    256 MB RAM
1.    1.5 GHz Processor

Features of KGB Archiver:
1.                  Supports native .kgb files and .zip files
2.                  AES-256 Encryption
3.                  Able to create self-extracting archives.
4.                  Multilanguage supports like Arabic, German, Greek, Japanese, Spanish many more.
5.                  Unicode is supported in both User Interface and File Systems.
6.                  An Explorer shell extension is available for the windows version.
7.                  Make Password protected compressed file.

download google books in PDF

Saturday, March 9, 2013 - 0 Comments

In this post I will describe the tool that allows anyone to download all readable books and magazines from Google Books. Google Books Downloader is a free application for the Windows and Mac operating system. The program needs to be installed, and it is  optional to install Arccosine, which is not needed for the program’s core functionality.
You need to open the Google Books website and copy the web addresses into the downloader. Just head over there and search for books that you would like to download. All that needs to be done afterwards is to copy the web address and paste it into the application afterwards.

You may need to change the output format before you click on the start button to download the selected book The program will download and convert the selected book to pdf format by default, with options to change the format to png or jpg instead.Other options that are available are to change the book’s output resolution (default 800px, with options to change from 350px to 1200px) and the destination folder the book will be saved to.

The limitation of the tool is that it will only download the pages that are publicly viewable and pages that are not allowed to read will not be downloaded.

Mac and Windows users can download the latest version of the program from the official site www.gbooksdownloader.com

SpeedFan

Monday, February 25, 2013 - 0 Comments

SpeedFan is a lightweight and reliable temperature monitor, which has the added bonus of also monitoring (as the name suggests) the speed of the fans, since they are an important part of the health of your computer.

It can be set to monitor your hard drive’s temperature, the CPU temperature and the general internal temperature of the computer. SpeedFan is an interesting program that allows you to do a lot but it doesn’t work on every laptop model due to the fact that the fans on every laptop are configured differently. In some models, the temperature is available but most other functions are not. In spite of that, it does serve as a reliable monitor for the internal temperature of the computer even when some of the other features are not available; and a good detection system to warn you when certain problems arise. It can be set to run on startup and sound an alarm if the temperature gets too high.
